Le Marché

We made a quick run to Bressuire for the Tuesday market.  Each town has a special day for its market, although we see many of the same vendors going from one market to the next all week long.  You are guaranteed the freshest produce available since many of these growers are out in the gardens in early morning to pick the produce they will sell that day.

In Bressuire, all the vegetables, fruit, meat and cheese are available in a covered building called "Marché des Saveurs".

I usually go from one stall to the next to pick my veggies, but today I bought almost everything from the same vendor.  She was friendly and had everything displayed beautifully, so I bought onions, carrots, turnips, potatoes, green beans, blood tomatoes, on the vine tomatoes and cantaloupe (referred to as "melon" in France).  I stopped to pick up some picholine olives at another vendor's who specializes uniquely in olives.

Then I stood in line patiently to get a basket of Charlotte strawberries.  It is worth the wait to get these sweet and juicy berries, probably the best I've ever eaten.  They are like eating candy!  Just ask my niece Emélie who just couldn't get enough of these berries when she visited us in France back in 2012.  We must hurry to eat them before the season is over.

It's easy to find the market in Bressuire because it's right behind the church.

The outside portion of the market is filled with clothes, shoes, purses, hats and table linens.

Some leather goods as well, such as belts and wallets.

This is a view of the front of the church.

There is a fountain in the central square of the city, in front of the church.

We stopped for a coffee and small sandwich before heading back home, laden with our purchases that should last a few days at least.  The first time I ate at "La Mie Câline", a well-known chain in France, was with my three sisters on the Champs Elysées.  We had stayed in the heart of Paris for a little over three weeks and had had the time of our lives!  When the four of us get together, there is sure to be a lot of laughter.
