Some Cottage!

When searching for rental accommodation through "Rent a Place in France", I was under the impression that we had found a "little cottage" where the mayor once lived in the tiny town of St. Clémentin.  Much to our surprise and pleasure, the cottage is a house, and a very large one at that!

Welcome!

It is tastefully decorated in a French Country style with fine antiques throughout.  Large windows and French doors bring in an abundance of light .

The stone fireplace in the living room.  Our hosts being American, they are very conscious of providing excellent tech communications, such as a large screen TV with French and English channels, and reliable WiFi.

A monk's table which weighs a ton.  I wonder if the mayor ever used it for his council meetings...  Since I am not planning on dinner parties for 12, I suspect we will eat in the dining room and use this huge table for spreading out maps and keeping our reference materials.  Imagine what it would be like to have such a table to do my quilting! Definitely a few notches up from using an old Ping-Pong table in the garage...

A little desk tucked into the corner under a map of France, and a beautiful antique hutch with mirrored backing.  I have set up my computer here to write my blog.

Another hutch with marble top and mirror.  The dried lavender whispers "France"!

The dining room is just off the kitchen and has beautiful curtains trimmed with lace.

This little tableau in the dining room has very old wooden photo reproductions of the traditional bonnets worn in Brittany.

There are many plates that grace the walls of the house, with various themes and unique hangers.

The kitchen has a full-size fridge, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and propane stove top.

Many coffee making possibilities, including an electric bean grinder.  Karl always chooses the French Press.

The master bedroom is spacious and elegant.  Love the little side table with a special shelf for my jewelry.

This tapestry hangs on the wall and is so reminiscent of all the tapestries that hung in châteaux to keep out drafts and ward off the cold from the stone walls.

More antique furniture.  This dresser has the inside of its drawers lined with floral paper.

A very modern bathroom with a larger than normal shower. So wonderful to have some modern conveniences while still enjoying the period furniture elsewhere in the house.

Isn't this the cutest guest room, perfect for little girls!  My great-niece Bailey would love to sleep in this princess room.  After all, she just got back from a Disney cruise and is on a first name basis with Cinderella. "Call me Cindy," she whispered in Bailey's ear while doing arts and crafts.

This is the 2nd guest room, a double bed rather than a queen, beautifully appointed.

The bathroom shared by the two guest rooms, with a separate toilet room in the hallway.

Isn't this a lovely home?  It's comfortable and I've already adopted a special chair in the living room, perfect to curl up in, to do some reading.  And when I raise my head at the end of a chapter, I have the whole garden in my view through the French doors. That's where the geraniums grow, the vines climb the trellis, and the lavender waves gently in the breeze, emanating a subtle scent that triggers relaxation.

    1. A long drive for sure, but worth it. It rained yesterday which was a welcome relief from the 37 the day before! Talk about muggy.
